Josh Radnor is pretty adorable on How I Met Your Mother. But to be fair HIMYM has the hottest sitcom cast on TV with Jason Segal, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders, and the occasional Whedonverse guest star. BTW he gets extra props for being a Broadway boy after he took over the lead role in The Graduate from Jason Biggs.











Mark Ronson is really at the heart of the hip London scene. He's the Grammy winning producer behind Amy Winhouse's hit album. [I'll admit that I'm no Winehouse fan but her cover of The Zuton's Valerie on Ronson's Versions is pretty brilliant.] He also produced the Amy Winehouse song "I'm No Good" which is used as the theme to Billie Piper's fabulously saucy series "Secret Diary of a Call Girl". Plus he's also one of the most stylish guys around having appeared in GQ & Men's Health Style Guide. Oh and did I mention that he's got a British accent?

Verdict: Mark Ronson by a hair. And what very nice hair it is. When the crew of HIMYM do the inevitable "Robin dates a Ted-clone" episode they must get Mark. I just won't have it any other way.
Update: And I totally forgot to mention that Mark produced Robbie's Lovelight. While it's no Rock DJ it still got the kids (read:alcoholic friends) dancing on the couch.

WTF Moments in Pop Culture: McG Speaking

Over at the Ausiello Report on TV Guide they've got a recap of the 'Chuck' panel at the Paley Fest. Unfortunately McG was also there and decided to speak.

Geeking out: McG on the difference between a geek and a nerd: "Joss Whedon is a geek, J.J. Abrams is a nerd."

I have yet to see any 'JJ Abrams is My Master Now' shirts for sale.
But if someone decides to go there I suggest they use some Trekkie font/crap.
And then jump off a bridge.

Fancy a Rave?: Lessons from the UK Charts

I've been listening to BBC Radio 1 on Live Stream for the the past couple of nights and I have concluded the following:

1) Greg James is the cutest thing ever. Seriously. Last night (Tues AM UK) he defended playing "My Humps" and bashed Heather Mills all in the same show. Talk about covering all your bases. I do have to google about 3/4ths of what he talks about but it's well worth it. Plus thanks to the time difference his super early morning show is on at 9pm Vancouver time.
[Comics Note: And if there is ever a Runaways movie he most definitely has to play Chase.]

2) Rave music will never go out of style in the UK. Well it may go out of style, per se, but it will always get people on the dancefloor and high spots of the chart.

3)The Chris Moyles show theme/jingle is the most annoying thing ever. Though I'll give him some points back for playing Madonna every 30 min.

4) British people are not ashamed of their love of pop music. And that Ladies and Gents is why they rock.

#9 on this week's UK Chart- Utah Saints "Something Good 08"

Let me just get this out of the way first: Rave will never die.
Why?

Because people never get tired of looped beats. Back in the day we had our Casio keyboards that could do a mean hip-hop beat on loop till the batteries died out. Thanks to technological progress you can now have the same effect with a ringtone that plays the hook from your fave jam on loop until you answer the call from your mom (which will probably take a while).

Accepting the permanence of rave in the Brits' hearts and ears will make understanding the UK charts much easier. So it should be of no surprise to anyone that the #9 song on the charts this week is a rave hit. Actually it's a remix of a rave hit hence the year in the title. Like a prized bottle of vintage wine this track just seems to get more and more popular. Do I understand why ? Well since I haven't won a Nobel Prize the answer is most definitely 'no'. But as a Colonial I'm guessing that the fact that it's a meta-mix of Kate Bush's brilliant 'Cloudbusting' couldn't have hurt its chances of topping the pops.

In Sequential Style-James Jean & Prada

I'm not an emotional person but these bags always make me cry tears of pure joy. While the fashionazis are dubbing these bags the "Fairy Bags" [or for you Ren-fest types "Faery Satchels"], I'm going to stay true to comics and christen the bags the "Rose Red" and the "Snow White" in homage to the oh-so-excellent Fables.
And if you're in New York or LA you can go and see the wallpaper James Jean did for the Prada stores in Soho and Beverly Hills. I had somewhat lost faith in Miuccia recently with the move of Miu Miu to Paris fashion week and the the disappearance of übermodel Harry Kinkaid from Prada campaigns. But bringing in James Jean and using his style as inspiration for an entire collection has reinvigorated my faith in Miuccia and Co. If only we could return the ad campaigns to their glory days of Jamie Bell and Maggie Gyllenhaal instead of the tired Sasha, Kirsten Dunst, and Lindsay Lohan of late.

On a side note: If you're wishing to buy my affection/esteem/soul just send me one (or more) of these bags in my direction and we'll see what we can work out.

Seriously, what the hell is that suppose to mean?!!!

I know that their are a ton of songs with dubious usage of the English language but I find myself fixated on this lyric simply because the rest of the song actually makes sense (Fauxnetic spelling of 'Lemme' aside). Unfortunately my guide to the modern vernacular, Urban Dictionary, didn't shed any light into the connotative meaning of 'flick'. I hope that my ignorance won't lead me into an awkward social situation with some very angry Rihannicans.

If you can help me decipher the Rihannican language please comment.

It's ANIME Britney, Bitches!

Toxic definitely had the whole Aeon Flux thing going but without the suckage. So it seems only natural that Britney would say 'eff it' to the whole live-action bit and just do an Anime vid. Thank god Brit Anime doesn't require me to hide in shame behind my copy of ELLE.

FYI: I'm definitely going to do some Britney Cosplay this convention season.

Batman definitely has a Messiah Complex

I caught the premiere of Justice League: New Frontier at WonderCon last week and it was surprisingly good. But with David Boreanaz, Neil Patrick Harris, Kyle MacLachlan, and Lucy Lawless in the cast I knew I was going to enjoy it regardless of any artistic value (which it has plenty of thanks to the genius of Darwyn Cooke). Most importantly I got to hear Jeremy Sisto as Batman. Back at Comic-Con the reaction by fans to Jeremy was well...not that positive. Thankfully Bruce Timm stepped in and comforted our hypercritical comic nerd minds with reassurance that Jeremy was doing some serious justice to Batman. Though I must admit from the point of a rabid B:TAS fan I don't know why Kevin Conroy can't be the voice of Batman....forever. Anways, Jeremy did a good job with Batman by emphasizing that he's the outcast of the group. You know because his only super powers are good looks and billions of dollars. Damn he's the best.

Hearing Jeremy also reminded me that he's not the first Batman to play Jesus on a network miniseries. Prompting me to ask "Is the Bat Signal the new Star of Bethlehem?"[Val Kilmer voiced Moses/God in "Prince of Egypt".
And I didn't want to deny you guys of a Val Kilmer pic!]

HOLY BIBLE, BATMAN!

Not to leave my fave Batman out...Michael Keaton is voicing ark navigator Noah in Noah's Ark:The New Beginning an animated film coming out this year. Eliza "air punch" Dushku and Jason Lee also lend their voices to the non-Veggie Tales religious animated film.

Advisory: Don't get my started on Clooney.

Disney/WALL-E panel @ WonderCon/SaturdayWall-E director Andrew Stanton shared some clips from the movie and I must say I can already tell it's going to be my favorite movie of the year. Any movie that draws inspiration from Sci-Fi movies and musicals is going to earn a special place in my heart. Those PIXAR people scare/excite me with their constant brilliance. Stockholm please give these people a prize!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles panel @ WonderCon/Sunday
I only caught the very end of The Terminator:SCC panel on Sunday but I did manage to catch the clip from the season finale. I have to admit I haven't been following the show too closely but I have seen a couple of eps. Mostly in support of Glau. The panel did convince me that Kevin Zegers doppelgänger Thomas Dekker is indeed a hottie mostly because he actually looked like he really enjoyed being in the panel.

On a somewhat connected note: Did you know that Canuck Kevin Zegers is in those CKin2U ads? Talk about nondescript! They could have at least shown his entire face! But I digress from the WonderCon recap.

"Mercedes like Count of Monte Cristo." I think in my entire life only three people have ever made that connection. The other person was a woman working at the gift shop of the Dolores Mission in San Francisco. I had Mr.Chabon sign my HC The Escapists which was awesome. BTW everything is awesome about him if you're wondering. I'm still pretty starstruck. The man has a well deserved Pulitzer and is a super nice person.
On a side note: I really wish he could have signed my page from issue 3 but that baby is hanging beautifully in my solarium.
