Hats Off to Pushing Daisies!

First things first-I'm still in a ridiculous amount of denial about the cancellation of Pushing. Daisies. My poor pop culture constitution cannot handle the cancellation of a brilliantly fantastical and charming morsel of entertainment goodness. But I was almost moved into tear-shed while watching episode 10 "The Norwegians". See apart from the show being a smorgasbord of delight with its brilliant cast and magical visual storytelling it also has hands down the most fantastically creative production and costume design seen on TV and most movies. One of the many weekly delights is seeing the Technicolor-idolizing wardrobe of leading lady Chuck. Surprisingly in Ep 10 it was Norwegian Hedda (played by Ivana "I'm in everything" Milicevic) that made me smile when I saw her sporting a hat design that I coincidently also own (though mine's purple). God, I'm going to miss this show.

Oh and if you're thinking of playing it Fringe (in a non-Joshua Jackson way) at Comic-Con next year- The Wool Cloche hat is handmade in Italy by Flu's Ear and was previously (sorry!) available at Nordstrom's. Though if you want to sport Chuck' Rasberry Fedora with Bow (by TARNISH) then you're in better luck because it's still available at Nordstrom.com

On an Awards note/rant-
I'm not one to seek validation of my pop culture by a group of self-congratulatory academy fogies but come on 12 Emmy Nominations for a Fantasy genre show that had its own pre-pilot comic book! It seemed like a truly geek chic show was finally going to get some respect (Unlike Buffy or BSG). Unfortunately the respect didn't turn into viewers. Though I would like to say that Us few loyal viewers are worth 20 times those Grey's Anatomy fools.

Pie à la Mulan

OMG You cannot miss this week's episode of PUSHING DAISIES entitled "Dim Sum Lose Sum"!!! It was absolutely brilliant! And not only because a certain someone dons a full on Midnight Cowboy ensemble. But seriously watch out for Lee who managed to display every emotion under the sun. It was like watching one of those method acting warm-ups. Theatre kids you know what I'm talking about!

Wednesday's Hotties...not in an Addams Family way

Christmas Comes Early!
For one week I'll be taking you on a tour of the best Eye Candy TV has to offer. Really it's just an excuse for me to post some pics of hotties. Feel free to comment if you think I've unfairly passed someone over.

Lee Pace [Aries]: Pushing Daisies 8PM ABC- Pushing Daisies wins the Pop Colony Gold Star © for Best New Series of 2007 (with flying colors if I may add). One of the reasons why it's one of the best shows around is because of its excellent casting. I mean come on they've got CHENO!!! Yet it's the adorably awkward portrayal of Pie Maker Ned by Lee Pace that makes me giddy from anticipation week after week (let's not forget entrepreneurial guys who can cook=hot!). And on a fashion forward note- Ned is one of the best dressed characters on TV with his steady stream of Helmut Lang and Prada. BTW I can't wait to see him with Pop Colony Certified Icon SMG in Addicted (which might come out sometime in the spring). Lee gets extra points in my book for growing up in my hometown of Houston, Texas too!

Damian Lewis [Aquarius]: Life 10PM NBC-I really wish Damian would be his ginger self and keep his sexy accent when he's stateside. I'm still kind of not totally sold on Life but I do find myself tuning in week after week (sort of like Dirty Sexy Money). But maybe I'm being so hard on the show because I'm part of the camp that loves Damian as a baddie like in the good old MPT: Forsyte Saga days. [Support your local PBS station!]

The Men of CSI:NY 10PM CBS
Gary Sinise [Pisces]-He's like 1000 and still smokin' hot. That it really all I need to say on the matter. Oh and he's the face of Baume & Mercier. Gotta love a man with Swiss on his wrist!

Carmine Giovinazzo [Virgo]- My favorite character on the show (please forgive me Gary!). And he passes (with flying colors) my 'Looks Excellent in a Wife-Beater & Henley' test.

Eddie Cahill [Capricorn]- So hot that I'll overlook his stint on Friends.

Hill Harper [Gemini]- Mmm...a hottie and Harvard Law alumnus? Oh yeah like that's not super hot.

A.J. Buckley- I love me a geek. And Mr.Buckley plays techie geek Adam Ross brilliantly!

Non-Chocolate Halloween Treats Are Good Too!

According to Zap2It.com Molly Shannon is going to guest on Pushing Daisies for 3 episodes in Nov/Dec as a pastry competitor to awkward-chic Ned (This week's episode has him decked out in a Helmut Lang trench with the collar up. I swear ABC sent out a memo to all their shows that said "Gay-Up NOW or YOU'RE CANCELED!!!" Not that I'm complaining). I just can't wait till Molly inevitably screams "Stick it in your Pie Hole, Ned!"

Oh and the super great Mike White is going to play her brother, how sweet is that?!?!

Is Pushing Daisies trying to send a shout out to BKV???

Just got done watching this week's Pushing Daisies (which was funny, lovely, had a character named Manuel, and even had some singing by Cheno) and couldn't help but notice some similarities to the BKVerse.

The Coeur d'Coeurs movie theatre is playing the Frank Capra-Cary Grant classic Arsenic & Old Lace. For those of you who haven't read Runaways (First off, Shame on You!), runaway Gert inherits a telepathically controlled dinosaur (or whatever Barney looking animal it is) from her evil parents. When the kids decide to give themselves cool code names Gert chooses Arsenic and names her new pet, Old Lace. Being the TCM junkie that I am I truly love this movie reference.

Ned's partner Emerson Cod knits when he gets stressed. Just like our favorite Culper Ring agent, 355! In the past week since Chuck has been alive he's knitted two gun-cozies. A long-running joke in Y:The Last Man was that 355's knitting project was a gun cozy. It turned out to be a scarf for Yorick but I like to believe that maybe she had some leftover yarn and decided to make the gun cozy for herself, after all.
This show is definitely (by far) my favorite new show of the season!
